WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT LAKE TRAVIS?

Lake Travis is one of Texas’ most visited lakes. The crystal blue water and laid-back attitude make it the destination of choice for Austinites of all ages. If the breathtaking natural setting wasn’t enough, you’ll have countless water activities to enjoy, from fishing, jet skiing, boating, and even scuba diving. Oh, there are also live music venues to enjoy on Lake Travis.

LIVE MUSIC AND GOOD EATS

If you’re not packing your own lunch, you can drop by one of the many Lake Travis restaurants and enjoy a burger, sandwich, smoked barbecue, or refreshing craft brew. Live music venues, barbecue joints, and lakeside cafes are easy to find along the shoreline.

DID YOU KNOW LAKE TRAVIS IS NOT A LAKE?

Lake Travis is technically not a lake; it’s a reservoir. The reservoir was created when the Lower Colorado River Authority constructed the Mansfield Dam. The massive dam is 26 stories high and 7,000 feet long. Lake Travis became official in 1942. Today, Lake Travis is a part of the Highland Lakes Region, which is comprised of five other lakes.

SIZE MATTERS

When you want to get away, you’re looking for space, and Lake Travis has it. Lake Travis is about 64 miles long and 5 miles wide. It encompasses 271 miles of shoreline and nearly 19,000 acres.

LAKE TRAVIS WATER TEMPERATURE

The water temperature at Lake Travis couldn’t get more comfortable. Sorry, you’ll have to leave your thermal wetsuit at home. The average water temperature in May is 70F. In the peak of the summer months from June – September, water temps average in the low 80s. In August, the water temp peaks at 86F.

PONTOON BOAT RENTALS ON LAKE TRAVIS

There are a lot of things to do on Lake Travis, but one of the most popular things to do is rent a pontoon boat. These big boats are easy to operate and come packed with fun for all ages. They’re big enough for the whole family and then some.

  • The perfect boat for parties
  • Water slides – yeah, double-decker pontoon boats have water slides
  • Versatility – perfect for fishing, swimming, relaxing, and tubing
  • Shade – not gonna lie – it gets hot on the lake sometimes, and a pontoon boat gives you the overhead shade you’ll want
