A Perfect Late-Summer Day on Lake Austin
August 28, 2015 was one of those picture-perfect days on Lake Austin that reminds you why living in Central Texas is so special. The sky was clear, the water was warm, and our guests had an absolute blast out on the lake. This was during the early days of Keep Austin Wet Watercraft, and days like this are what fueled our passion for putting people on the water.
Late August in Austin means temperatures are still in the high 90s and the lake is the only place you want to be. The water temperature on Lake Austin hovers around the low 80s at the end of summer, making it perfect for swimming, floating, and cooling off between stretches of sunshine on the boat deck.
The Lake Austin Experience
What makes Lake Austin so special compared to Lake Travis is its intimate feel. Lake Austin is narrower and more sheltered, which means calmer waters and less boat traffic. The towering trees and limestone cliffs that line the shore give it a natural beauty that feels worlds away from the city, even though downtown Austin is just a short drive away.
On this particular day, our group explored several coves along the lake, anchored for swimming, and enjoyed a full afternoon of music, food, and laughter. It was a simple day by design, but those are often the most memorable.
